Kim Jong Il Picks Un-Successor
North Korea is an enigma wrapped in a mystery veiled in secrecy, mostly thanks to the efforts of their megelomaniacal dictator, Kim Jong Il and his father before him. Aside from his notable collection of stellar shades, Kim Jong Il is best known for his prowess as the most tyranical dictator on the planet, a title one imagines he gladly represents. As the good dictator is in the twilight of his fear-inducing career, he has been vetting his youngest son, Kim Jong Eun to take over his reign of terror when he is gone. The Eun one has been made general of the vast, yet technologically devoid North Korean army, and will likely be appointed leader/dictator/secretary of terror once his pops finally kicks the bucket. The good people at NMA put together this humorous animation so the world can better understand the vetting process in North Korea - looks like they don't think much of the "great leader" either...
PS If you still aren't convinced North Korea is the strangest place on the planet, check the VBS Documentary on North Korea. It's sad yet humorous, and might be the most comprehensive journalism done on the subject - even CNN defers to Vice's Shane Smith in matters of Kim Jong Il's renegade nation. No, seriously...

Robert Palmer "Addicted to Love"
This track is crack. Laid back 80s lounge lizard stee - premium saucy. Robert Palmer was a sincere boss. RIP.
Florence and the Machine have a FLY cover of "Addicted to Love" circulating the interwaves FREE DOWNLOAD HERE

I Learned it from watching you, DAD...
Nostalgia. I liked drug commercials back in the eighties, when they weren't depressing, I guess it's weirder that I liked drug commercials at all when I was little. I always thought it was funny how phony they were.
Thursday
Wiz Khalifa "In the Cut" [video]
Wiz Khalifa is slaying the game right now, touring the country, making moves and dropping collabos with all the right people (including "Superhigh" with ROSS). Dude is definitely putting Pittsburgh on the map, which hasn't had anyone rep the city with a swagger since the "the Lumber Company" days of the Pirates in the 70s. Keep shining, keep smoking; roll them doobies up...
Wednesday
Kings of Leon "RADIOACTIVE"
This is the first single of Kings of Leon's upcoming album, "Come Around Sundown"(due 10.19). I'm feeling the song, not sure how I feel about the video (contrived, yes. but well-done nonetheless). The black children running gleefully with a band of whiteboys is a little much if you ask me (kinda like an ad for 2010 WorldCup), but it will fly. I guess the gospel chorus somehow ties it all together? Either way, these Kings are following the meteoric success of their last album with a banger, and for me that's all that matters. This is some fiery driving music, get me my car keys, Jeaves...
Tuesday
Cee Lo Green "FUCK YOU"
This song is so viral it almost makes me sick (close to 10 Mil. views in a month?). However, you gotta love how Cee Lo knowingly dropped a track with a vulgar hook so infectious, that even mainstream radio couldn't ignore it - the radio edit I heard whilst in Cali was absolute trash, you can't edit a song like this, it just has to live on the web. So, "fuck you," not you Cee Lo, you're slaying-it right now.
Monday
50 Cent "Many Men (Wish Death)"
In honor of 50's recent destruction of the Tweet Machine ( so sincere). Follow 50cent now if you haven't already, he drops gems, hilarity ensues...

Lindsay Lohan Saga via Taiwan
This is definitely the only way I would reference the Lindsay Lohan nonsense. The Taiwanese know how to tell a story without getting bogged down in facts, or details. I must say, the prison shower-scene is pretty entertaining...
Tuesday
Cee-Lo "Fuck You"
No Radio, no problem this shit is viral, and I'm sure the club with except this anthem with open arms (which means some lame call and response scenarios will be rampant on the dancefloors.) Cee-lo sorta slays it, while proving "Fuck You" just doesn't ring-out like it used to. Fuck you very much - here's a song about it.\
50-Centavo flipped a freestyle over it. HERE

Action Bronson "Imported Goods"
Shouts to Queens. Smart Crew. Action Bronson cookin-up the squab for the streets...
Tuesday
Guns N' Roses "You Could Be Mine"
This might have been the perfect marriage of edgy/popular nineties culture. The video is an EPIC testament to the best the early 90's had to offer, and the song has that raw nineties aggression that made Guns bigger than the rest of 'em. Too bad Axl lost his voice, (and his mind). Slash might not own the name, but he got out alive, with his dignity intact. I guess I'm on a nineties RAWK kick right now, but really, I will never stop feeling this video, or T2 for that matter - they always stand-up over time... long live vintage G'n'f'n R (I'd link them, but there's no way I can sign-off on that Chinese Democracy crap (stop kidding yourself, it's OVER).

Mannequins: Permanent Creepy (remember the movie?)
This pic reminded me of that fine piece of 80's schlock. Definitely, wouldn't hold up in today's market. Just too creepy/implausible. Oops, I gusss i was wrong, just noticed there are plans to remake with Zac Effron. FAIL. I guess all the great stories have already been told, so we're left with Effron in "Mannequin: The Final Chapter." \
PS Mannequin would be a good name for a gay boy band (like the American Menudo).

Mad Decent Block Party (PO PO X Ninjasonik x DJ Sega)
Mad Decent decended on the seaport, white riot with the ninjas and Po Po. Slid by the clipboard courtesy of a 2ndhand wristband, slinked thru to the next level of security to smoke with the homies backstage. I was just in time for po po, which was the idea (diggin their low-fi rawk). Easy breezy, show was dope. Ninjasonik got it popping, but they cuss too much (so sayeth the meaty bouncers). Bosco delrey was heard, mad distortion, the kidz love that shit. Dj sega murdered for a minute, and jasmine solano got on with Max Glazer right before before dusk. Free booze, Good Tunes, Dry Heat, Hot times in the durrty city. All without a "riot"...

Trouble Andrew "Lay it Down" (remix feat. GLC & Stunnaman)
26 lay it down remix by Rock Steady
Some piff from the Trouble Gang, this track's been on repeat in my headphones for a few weeks now, (along with "BMF" & "Salute" in case you were wondering what's good [rap's back jack]). Stunnaman slays it at the end (welcome to the movie) - good high vibe, fly on a bike ride.

SLUTLUST: Loco Communications
Check-out the homie OJ's (aka Slutlust) blog. He's running and gunning in these city streets. A true loco local, he's a native of NYC and a soldier in the streets. His commentary on the state of social affiars in NYC always entertains. Far more enjoyable than the out-of-town snark-merchants OD-ing on the interweb, we got perspective on these city streets, (you just have your first walk-up apartment). Give it a spin. The Trip-P Gang is making moves on this web of inequity...

The Powers of KATSU
by NICK POE, ALEX KALMAN & TROY LUMPKIN
I stumbled across this little ditty put together by the homie Nick Poe and his dudes at Red Bucket Films. Simple, cool and well-executed, an homage to Charles and Ray Eames; "Powers of Ten," the short provides a commentary on scale and perspective - enlisting the work of graf writer Katsu to make it a little more accessible, a bit more street. (I'll let myself out, if i'd used the term "urban," I'd have hung myself )

Hipster Dads are EVERYWHERE...
Seen this dad from a mile away in the LES, super hip, soo asian, so I flick-it-up (not mad, dad) - Definitely a cut above "flip-flop/day-trader dad" and "angry sporty dad," where are all these fucking babies coming from (like, for serious) STROLLER STREETS...
Wednesday
Lil B "The Age Of Information"
I'm not gonna front, I didn't know who Lil B was until he followed me on twitter (sorry, backpackers, but I tend to favor the music of my coast). Dude is pretty ill, and definitely no-dummy. He legitimately has the Internet going NUTS (I read he has 100 separate Myspace pages). Ironically, he takes a pretty negative stance on the Internet-age, and I agree with it for the most part. This dude is def one of the hardest working rappers in the game right now and I'm feeling this track. The "Based God" is a multi-faceted maniac (he also directed this vid), my kind of people. He even got some shine from those high-felutin' fanooks at the Times this week. I might not fully subscribe to Lil B's "Based" philosophy (I got my own VooDoo, dad), but he definitely has bullet points for days.
The age of information is making the sheep more sheepish. Fuck it, we shepherds in this bitch...
Tuesday
Team Facelift @ Santos
A Married to the MOB X Shameless Affair, packed the basement of Santos Tea Haus for a selected crew of wildouts, scenesters, and throwback slackers. The Facelift Gang tore the floor up, rocking some "Fish Fry", and "6 Grams" (the new post-apocalyptic surf-rock-rager produced by Fonda), and a few other tracks to spice up the night. Team Facelift revved-up the crowd and got it popping, building the intensity and keeping it moving. Curren$y spit some gems for the packed house, and the scene was rowdy (he seemed to kill it, though the sound in the VIP was bogus, go figure). No flicks, sorry, by then the booze was cruising, and I get anxiety from that kind of crowded haus - stuck to the cut behind the booth with my trip-P compatriots. Another WIN for the facelift gang. Shouts to Married to the Mob and ShamelessMGMT for a fine monday mixer...

LOANaMania :: Broke Hogan Knows Loans...
Cash-strapped celebs are always a good source of humorous (shameless) advertisements, this is no exception. Hulkamania's value is certainly dwindling, and I would imagine he probably called for a loan before getting this offer. His body is broke and his wallet empty, his wife definitely took a toll on his finances, as did living WAY beyond his means for the good of his pathetic entitled family, so what's left than to appear in ads for suspect companies? I mean, who gets financial advice from the television anyways?? Oh yeah, the poor, the dim and the drunk (good book title, no?) - sounds exactly like somebody pinpointed the WWE Demographic to the tee. Well played Hulk, a glowing endorsement. Maybe Hogan DOES know best (probably not). POOR HOGAN. But for the record, I met him twice in an airport as a kid, he was ridiculously friendly to me and my cousin. Okay, this is actually just sad.
Hulkamania makes it rain, singles only...
In other shameless endorsement news Broke Lohan attempts to tweet her way back into financial freedom (wonder if her tweets will continue behind the G-Wall?)....

N.A.S.A. "Gifted (Steve Aoki remix)"
Stumbled on this Steve Aoki remix of N.A.S.A's "Gifted" (with Kanye and Santi Gold) via my homie STOPPLAYREWIND - The track is off N.A.S.A's "Big Bang" (a reMix and Mash Album that just dropped). Shit is Fire. Aoki knows how to entice a dance riot. Give it a whirl.
N.A.S.A is in NYC Tommow at PUMA SOCIAL CLUB - If you've never seen them live, you should. They Shred...

Narcocorridos (Drug Ballads) & Mexico's Cocaine Cowboys
The drug trade permeates almost every aspect of culture in modern-day Mexico and over the past two decades, this has given rise to a large movement across the country of Narco cinema, and music - fully inspired (and often funded) by the Narco Trafficantes. Mexican Narco music or Narcorridos (drug ballads) as they are known by Mexicans is no joke, a tradition that dates back to the '30's, but has more recently become a phenomenon of much larger proportions - just like the Mex-drug-game, which is now on full SPRAWL. Like the rap game in certain parts of the U.S., the cartels often fund their favorite groups; unlike the U.S., those who snitch, or talk shit through their music are often marked for death, EARLY - so don't go talking about the rivals unless you're paid in full, or your cool with El Chapo. The more you learn about their drug culture, the more you will realize that MEXICO IS THE WILD FUCKIN' WEST.
I picked this vid by Los Cuartes de Sinaloa, because I chill (fish and smoke on the mexican mountain cheeba) in Sinaloa every year, and El Chapo is seriously EL JEFE. Check-out the VBS (vice) documentary on Narco Cinema, it's pretty entertaining, and shows you just how deeply the drug trafficking culture is spun into the fabric of modern Mexican culture. Make's the U.S. look like Switzerland.

"Live Fast Die" - GG Allin (Troubled Troubadour of The Bowery)
GG ALLIN Was an O.G. shock rocker/ a testament to excess and a raving MANIAC. He was "all in" always. My first exposure to his raging repertoire was in 9th grade, when I saw a video of his live show circa '90 (?) - a show when he subsequently shat on stage, rolled around in his own feces (butt naked) all the while shrieking punk music, only to bolt down the the bowery (still completely naked, Bowery still completely gutter at the time it was shot, not the hi end strip mall we see today). I have "shotgun Natalie" for that early taste of the gutter life, the epitome of shock RAWK, I still remember it vividly. That was the moment i realized that sometimes its not the talent that gets you the shine, its the shock of the rock and the rage in the cage. I mean, we watched the whole video, and clearly Mr. Allin was not much of a technician, but he sure knew how to create a vicious spectacle. I think he also shot himself, during a show once, dude was deranged. RIP you crazy fuck. Here's a link GG ALLIN and the Jabbers "Don't talk to me" - LIVE FAST DIE.
Saturday
Tonetta77 "DRUGS, DRUGS, DRUGS"
Something tells be Tonetta77 writes from experience, definitely a raving maniac of sorts, like a made-for-YouTube GG Allin (minus fecal matter). Check the link if you really need some backstory, I think the video is sufficient. His YouTube account has been shut down numerous times. That's marginally gangster, I guess? Shock Schlock. HA
Thursday
Ruff Cuts :: Remix, Reuse, Re-edit, RECOUP (I like alliteration)
teeny for rando
the effects of getting ICED (this is the first/last time i endorse this "icing" phenomenon, sean kinney killed it on his born day)
okay, so maybe it took more than some smirnoff ice to get him to this point (PPP)
Classic Mets/Yankee fans at the Subway Series. Talking shit all game, know your baseball, fan. Great game, Santana beat CC (series later evened out at NYY. GOMETS)
